Look out! National Emergency ahead!

With the new Obama Administration looming ever closer, and I'm remaining hopeful about it mind you, we now have a new National Emergency among us! A nuclear powered Iran? Nope. Gas prices starting to edge up again? Nope. ANOTHER economic bailout for some other loser? Nope. Actually, it's worse, WAY worse! No TV for some people! HOLY CRAP, life without TV?! Yes folks, this is the new National Emergency as defined by President Elect Obama. Apparently, the U.S. Department of Commerce has run out of funds for that $40 coupon for people to get a converter box for their old Analog TV. For those in the know, if you don't have cable, or one of the multitude of Satellite TV Companies, then your TV is an Analog TV, picking up the "free" channels, right? And, on February 17th 2009, unless you have a converter box, you're screwed. You can only watch "snow" on your TV. But, provided you're into that, then you're fine!

Well, the incoming Obama Administration doesn't feel this is proper not to have more converter box coupons, of which the $40 coupon is paid for by taxpayers. They believe that the government is not doing enough, particularly in rural, poor and minority communities, to help these folks make the transition. A quote from John Podesta that he wrote: "With coupons unavailable, support and education insufficient, and the most vulnerable Americans exposed, I urge you to consider a change to the legislatively mandated analog cutoff date," Podesta wrote."With coupons unavailable, support and education insufficient, and the most vulnerable Americans exposed, I urge you to consider a change to the legislatively mandated analog cutoff date," Podesta wrote: "With coupons unavailable, support and education insufficient, and the most vulnerable Americans exposed, I urge you to consider a change to the legislatively mandated analog cutoff date," Podesta wrote: "With coupons unavailable, support and education insufficient and the most vulnerable Americans exposed I urge you to consider a change to the Legislatively mandated analog cutoff date." This is in reference to the Obama Administration wanting the date of Febrary 17th to be pushed back for some reason. Who knows why? I mean, if there's no money, there's no money. WAIT, I have the answer! ANOTHER BAILOUT!

However, to be fair, the Bush Administration is asking for an additional $250 million more to "re-fund" the program so that consumer can have their Constitutional Right to TV. I say, it's done. No one has a Constitutional Right to TV. Everyone knew this was coming, everyone. Particularly those that spend all their day, or a good chunk of it, WATCHING TV! However, as Joe Barton, Texas Reprentative, says, there is no need for additional funding because when unredeemed coupons expire, that funding can be used for a new coupon.

The idea here is, why is this such an emergency? There is nothing in the Constitution about a right to TV. We have SO many more concerns in 2009, and the Obama Administration refers to those without a coupon as the most vulternable and exposed? Seriously? Has his Administration's IQ dropped drastically since he was elected? Here's a thought for those who can't afford the thing without a coupon. RENT MOVIES. Can't do that? Ok. GO TO THE LIBRARY! They have videos, they have books. And they're free to check out, assuming you're responsible enough to return them. Or, do we need a bailout for all the morons that are not responsible enough to return them? I really have a problem with looking at people who feel they must have TV. Sure, it's great. I enjoy mine. I have one analog set, and one LCD. It's a small LCD. But it's not a right. Y ou have to work for it. If you're poor, SAVE MONEY IDIOT! YOu have to prioritize. Do you want alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, food for your family, or TV? The choice is yours. But by no means is this a national emergency. The Obama Administration needs to stop treating it as such. There are Third World countries that have a higher literacy rate than the US. Perhaps of some of these "vulnerable and exposed" folks picked a book up once in a while, we could raise the literacy rate. Don't know how to read? Fine, go to your library and ask about literacy programs. Learn to READ! If all else fails, go to http://www.literacy.gov/ and see what's available there for help. There is nothing to be ashamed of, but I do understand the stigma about not being able to read. But please, seek out help! The poorest people in the world don't have TV, and they seem to get along fine! Our poorest people have at least one TV. Anyone see a problem?

Since the Obama Administration, and apparently Democrats I'm guessing here, seem to think TV is some kind of National Emergency, is this the change y'all were talking about? I would have thought you'd have had other things on your mind given the world we live in today. And you can't blame Bush for all of it. Democrats have controlled Congress for 2 years, so, there's some responsibility there.
